Answering the phone
Hey guys,
Today I will be posting about what to do if the phone rings.
You should always discus the parent’s rules before they
leave. Some parents may prefer to let the phone record any messages, this will
free you up to keep a watchful eye on the kids. However if you do answer the
phone, follow these simple safety guidelines.
·
Keep a list of important phone numbers handy to
save precious minutes in the event of any emergency.
·
Never identify yourself by name or as the
babysitter.
·
Never tell the call that the parent aren’t home.
Inform the caller that they can’t come to the phone, but you can take a
message. Record a name and a contact number and give ot the parents when they
get home.
·
If the caller becomes persistent or abusive, or
makes you feel uncomfortable or suspicious, hang up and call a trusted adult or
the parent you are babysitting for. You may need to call the police, depending
on the severity of the situation.
·
Don’t give out any information, unless you know
the person who is calling.
·
Be courteous.
·
If the caller is trying to sell something, hang
up and say no than you and hang up.
·
Do not make personal calls, unless they are
specifically related to the job
·
If the phone is portable or a mobile phone, keep
it turned on, charged and nearby. This is for in an emergency.
There you go, some simple steps to being safe on the phone
when babysitting.
